1. Please review the provided map. Study the two routes (purple and red)
suggested for a public transportation link between Calgary and Okotoks.
2. Choose one of the technology options for this route and place the
sticker representing that technology on the route you have selected in
step 1. The options are as follows:
o BRT
o Light Rail
o Commuter Rail
o High-speed Rail
3. Evaluate the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) options provided. Place
a sticker representing your choice of TOD at each end of the chosen
transportation route. The two TOD selected do not need to be the same. The
options are as follows:
o TOD with emphasis on green space and high- to medium-density residential
areas
o TOD with emphasis on ample parking and office space
o TOD with emphasis on commercial and low- to medium-density residential
areas
4. Using the remaining stickers provided (which represent resources)
indicate on the matrix (provided next to the map) which of the following
attributes of a TOD are the most important. Divide the stickers equally
amongst your group members. Each group member can allocate their resources
to the attribute(s) of their choosing. Please make this decision
independently, rather than collectively. The attributes are:
o Security / Safety (e.g. lighting, CCTV, peace officers, etc.)
o Accessibility (e.g. wheelchair ramps, hand rails, elevators, etc.)
o Station Amenities (e.g. bathrooms, heating, water fountains, etc.)
o LEED Rating (both at the transit station and in the surrounding TOD)
o Affordability (e.g. transit subsidies, affordable housing, etc.)
o Service Standards (e.g. feeder bus service, frequency of service, etc.)
o Quantity / Quality of Parking (e.g. more parking spaces, parkade, etc.)
o Station Aesthetics (e.g. public art, architectural considerations, etc.)
